Google is dumping Windows operating system for security reasons. Google started phasing out the use of Windows in its offices in January. This move came after an attack on Google’s Chinese operations, where Chinese hackers successfully broke through Google’s security measures. The break in was made through a vulnerability in Internet Explorer, the browser that is built-in Windows operating system. New hires in Google are no longer given computers that run on Windows, they are either given Apple’s Mac or PCs that run on Linux operating system. One of Google’s employees revealed that they are no longer “doing any Windows for security reasons”.
Could the gradual ditching of the use of Windows at Google signal the demise of Windows operating system? I guess Google’s move will greatly affect the image of Windows but it could not easily become the cause of the end of the operating system. Windows has since been able to weather through the storm that came because of the weaknesses of Vista; Windows 7 is now slowly but surely erasing the bad memories of the Vista days. I guess Google’s ditching of Windows is not enough to kill the operating system.
